40th EVA International
2023
The 40th EVA International featured a Guest Programme called The Gleaners Society. In response to an invitation from the curator, Sebastian Cichocki, Deirdre O’Mahony devised a project in collaboration with the Thomond Primary School Gardening Club to create a permanent micro-forest and biodiversity haven on the school grounds titled Snaky River Forest, 2023.
Together with Hometree, a charity dedicated to preserving native Irish woodland the gardening club planted 97 trees including Oak, Scots Pine, Holly, Rowan, Alder, Willow, Blackthorn, Whitethorn, Hazel and Spindle. The school children also contributed a collage that maps the different trees and soil inhabitants of the micro-forest that was installed at Ormston House for the duration of the 40th EVA International in Limerick City.
